An outline of 5-Amino salicylic acid

A variety of chemical compounds and solvents have become a general requirement for most manufacturing industries to make assorted products. These are utilized in amalgamation with other chemical substances. The properties of the chemicals play a major role in identifying the role of individual substances. This involves a lot of laboratory investigations by the research and development teams. 5-Amino salicylic acid is one such type of chemical which is exploited on a large scale for use in the pharmaceutical industry. The use of such a chemical has made it popular which has seen a rise in demand for such products. This is one of the derivatives of salicylic acid which acts as antioxidants and traps the free radicals which in a way are damaging byproducts of metabolism. The colour of such a product varies from off white to gray which is odourless. Purity of such product is estimated at more than 99%

Properties:
  •     Molecular Weight 153.14
  •     Melting point: 275-280 °C (dec.)(lit.)
  •     Storage temp: 2 to 8 degree Celsius
  •     Flash point: 279 to 281 degree Celsius

5-Amino salicylic acid is a metabolite product which is a crystalline solid in nature. Formally it is also termed as 5-amino-2-hydroxy-benzoic acid whose chemical formula is C7H7NO3. 5-AS and Mesalamine are also used as synonyms to represent the chemical compound.

These are probable pharmacologically active chemical component of sulphasalazine which is a remedial drug utilized in the healing of ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease. This is combustible and is incompatible with acids, acid anhydrides, acid chlorides, strong oxidizers and chloroformates. 5-Amino salicylic acid belongs to the reactive groups which are phenols, cresols, acids, carboxylic, amines and aromatic. Toxic fumes of carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxides and carbon monoxides are emitted when ignited to decomposition. 5-Aminosalicylic acid inhibits prostaglandin 15-hydroxydehydrogenase (PGDH) in the placenta and lungs of the human body. This also has the ability to disrupt tumor necrosis factor alpha. These are categorized as anti- inflammatory compounds which have the capability to inhibit leukotriene formation in leukocytes in the human body.

Packaging of such chemical products is arranged as per the client's requirement which depends on the nature of the application and storage mechanism.
